The Odyssey Program is all about building unlikely relationships between young people from diverse backgrounds. We convene groups that would normally never find themselves in the same room, let alone spending a week together discussing deeply personal topics. But our goal is to go beyond talking about diversity and actually live in it and learn to appreciate it. We teach and practice true community building. Misunderstanding, prejudice, and discrimination often stem from a lack of meaningful opportunities for people of all walks of life to interact. Camp Odyssey provides that unique opportunity and fosters conflict resolution, leadership, and advocacy skills.
We pride ourselves on thinking outside the box, especially when it comes to defining leadership. In our view, being a leader has nothing to do with holding a position or title. The Odyssey Program believes in everyone's potential and seeks to support emerging leaders who are often overlooked or excluded. Every young person has something special to bring to the table, and we set the table for all of us (not just some of us).
Are you interested in building the most diverse community in Oregon? Want to explore your own style of leadership? Then we want you at camp! The Piece is committed to removing barriers from anyone's participation. That is why we will not turn anyone away for financial reasons. We will work with you to get you to camp. The next open opportunity to attend Camp Odyssey will be during our summer camp in 2016. Check back for applications in early spring!
