With a new year in front of us, we are excited to announce a new chapter to the Odyssey Program. To commemorate the 5th anniversary of Odyssey’s revival, our 2015 camp will take on a new form. This year The Piece will offer a follow-up residential program that will be available specifically for campers from the previous 4 years. The Odyssey Youth Summit, a 5-day leadership retreat, will expand on the original curriculum of Camp Odyssey but also provide specific skills-based training for youth to more effectively navigate and change institutions that can stifle their agency. Participants will first delve deeper into topics such as intersectionality of identities, systems of oppression, the interplay between social and environmental justice, and multiculturalism theories. Then, the summit will shift focus toward imparting actionable skills that will better prepare our leaders to apply their wealth of knowledge. Guest speakers and workshops will focus on topics such as grassroots organizing, public speaking, political activism, group facilitation and coalition building. These are the resources our youth have been asking for consistently over the past few years. We listened, and are excited to finally be able to provide them with that next step.

The Odyssey Youth Council, which consists of alumni from our past 4 camps, will be the central force in building this new program and shaping its content. Although our staff will be much smaller than usual (to maximize the number of youth who can attend), there are still many ways to get involved with the Summit. If you are interested, please let me know—we would value and appreciate your contributions. Our greatest resource is the wisdom and experience of our community and we are eager to build something fresh and progressive with your help. More details and information will be released in the coming months, so stay tuned!

We are sorry to say that this means we will not be accepting new campers for 2015. If you or your child are interested in our 2016 camp, please e-mail [email protected] for more information. Thank you!
